The StopBox PRO, mounted where you actually are. The WARD anchors a full-size handgun retention box to a wall, a closet, or a desk, so it is bolted in place and one press away instead of loose on a nightstand.

  • Wall Mounted
  • No Batteries
  • Under 1 Second
  • Magnetic Mag Mount
  • 81 Combinations
  • Made in USA

The StopBox WARD is the wall-mounted version of StopBox's mechanical handgun retention device. Same patented finger-code lock as the StopBox PRO, same no-battery, no-electronics mechanism, but hardware included to bolt it to a wall, the inside of a closet, under a desk, or behind a door. Press the lid, run your combination, press the thumb lock, lift. A practiced code runs in under a second, in the dark, under stress, the same every time because it is muscle memory rather than electronics that can fail.

StopBox is a family-owned company building these in their own facility in Spokane, Washington, from glass-reinforced polycarbonate-ABS with steel reinforcement, and the mechanism is patented (US Patent No. 11,142,926).

Why mount it

A StopBox PRO on a nightstand can be picked up and carried off, combination lock and all, given enough time. Bolted to a wall stud or a closet shelf, the WARD is anchored to the house rather than sitting loose on furniture. That is the entire case for choosing this over the standard PRO: same lock, same speed, fixed in place.

Where people actually mount it. Inside a bedroom closet at a reachable height, under a desk at the office, behind a door, in a hallway coat closet, or low on a wall where a kid cannot see it but an adult can reach it without looking. Reviewers report using more than one, one in the bedroom and one in the office, which is easy to justify once you are drilling four screws instead of shopping for a second nightstand box.

What fits inside

The interior runs 8.25 by 6.5 by 1.75 inches, sized for a full-size handgun. A built-in magnetic mount holds a spare magazine in place inside the lid instead of rattling loose against the pistol.

Installation

The WARD mounts with screws through the back of the housing into a wall, stud, or shelf. It is a drill and a level, not a locksmith. Mounting hardware is included. Pick a stud where possible for a box meant to resist being pulled off the wall, and mount it at a height and location only the intended user can reach without hesitation.

What it is, and what it is not

StopBox is direct about this on their own product page, and we will be too: this is a retention device, not a safe. It is built to keep a firearm out of unintended hands while that firearm is in active use, meaning out of a full safe but not currently on your body. StopBox's own instructions state it is not intended to be left unattended for long periods, and it is not a substitute for a rated gun safe for long-term storage. If you want both, mount a WARD where you need fast access and keep a proper safe for everything else.

Frequently asked questions

Is the StopBox WARD a gun safe?

No. StopBox describes it as a handgun retention device, and their own instructions state it is not intended to be left unattended for long periods. It keeps a firearm in active use out of unintended hands. For long-term storage, Dark Horse Guns & Ammo in Yerington, Nevada recommends a rated safe.

How is the StopBox WARD different from the StopBox PRO?

Same mechanical finger-code lock and the same speed of access. The WARD mounts permanently to a wall, closet, or shelf with included hardware, while the PRO is a portable box meant to sit on a nightstand or travel in a vehicle. Choose the WARD for a fixed location and the PRO if you want it to move with you.

Does the StopBox WARD need batteries or electronics?

No. The lock is entirely mechanical, with no battery, keypad, or app. A practiced combination opens it in under a second and cannot fail from a dead battery.

How many combinations does the StopBox WARD have?

The mechanical finger-code lock supports 81 possible combinations, set by the owner using the included hardware.

Where should I mount a StopBox WARD?

Common locations are a bedroom closet, under a desk, inside a hallway closet, or low on a wall reachable by an adult but out of sight for a child. Mount into a wall stud where possible, and place it where only the intended user can reach it quickly.

Will a full-size pistol fit in the StopBox WARD?

Yes. The interior measures 8.25 by 6.5 by 1.75 inches, built for full-size handguns, with a magnetic mount inside the lid for a spare magazine.

Is the StopBox WARD child-resistant?

Yes. Opening it requires a deliberate press sequence that random pressing will not reproduce. No container replaces supervision and safe firearm habits.

Where is the StopBox WARD made?

StopBox builds the WARD in its own facility in Spokane, Washington, at a family-owned American company.

Does buying a StopBox WARD require an FFL transfer?

No. It is a storage device, not a firearm. Buy it from Dark Horse Guns & Ammo at the counter in Yerington, Nevada, or have us ship it to you directly.
